What is Endodontic Surgery?

Posted on 9/19/2022 by Clackamas Oral Surgery
What is Endodontic Surgery?Endodontic surgery is the surgical procedure to remove the soft tissues inside a nerve that may have an infection or damage. Moreover, endodontic surgery uses it to find fractures that are not easily identified under an x-ray diagnosis but frequently cause pain and discomfort in the tooth.

Dental surgeons can treat most of the damaged roots surrounding the bone with this procedure. The surgeon then places a filling at the end of the source to prevent infections. However, complicated infections may require bone grafting techniques to preserve the tooth bone's nature and functionality while also providing strength to firmly attach and support the teeth.

When is an Endodontic surgery required?

A dentist will recommend this surgery when there is a failure in the root canal treatments, there is no option for repeating a root canal treatment, and if an individual has teeth that seem curved or where the root tip is not easily accessible. Moreover, endodontic surgery will be offered in teeth with false canals as a solution to deal with the dental problem.

The Surgical Process

The dentists open the teeth gums from the location of the affected tooth hence exposing the bone tissue while removing the infected tissue. Then, he will remove the apex of the affected tooth's root, replace it with a sealer, and add a sealing material.

After this, he will gum the place with the sealing material, ensuring it is well sutured. However, there may be swelling around the incision with a level of pain, but pain relievers are provided to the patient to help deal with the pain.

Generally, this surgery is essential to ensure that the bone tissues of the teeth are healthy and free of any bacterial infections. Also, it gives an individual a lasting quality dental health life.
