Most of the time these queries concern things such as when the numbness or discomfort will subside, how long it will take for their mouth to get completely back to normal, as well as how soon they can eat certain types of foods or drink specific beverages. But one area of common interest is also about the resumption of physical and/or athletic activities and what the restrictions there might be. Here are a couple of things that you will want to speak with our oral surgeons about specifically once your surgery is complete:
No Contact Sports
Unless otherwise instructed by the doctor, it is safe to assume that any sort of combat sport such as football, basketball, baseball, and hockey are all on the no list until further evaluation and clearance. And most certainly any and all combat sports such as martial arts, boxing, and wrestling are out of the question.
Gum Chewing and Mouthpieces
There may also be other little habits that accompany your exercise routine that you might not even be thinking about which might have to be avoided or altered while you are continuing to recover from your procedure. Many people like to chew gum during workouts as a way to keep their mouth moist and give them something to unconsciously do in-between sets. And other folks might use a mouthpiece to bite down when lifting heavy weights. Both of these activities will also need to be discussed with the surgeon afterwards.
