Platelet rich plasma therapy is something that is used in many medical and dental settings. Our office uses this therapy for different reasons if we feel that it is medically necessary for the patient. What is Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy?
Platelet rich plasma therapy is when blood is drawn from the body of the patient. This blood is then spun at a high speed. This separates the platelets from the cells of the blood and then concentrates them to become droplets that can be injected. Usually this mix contains close to 10 times more platelets than untreated blood, making the platelets a great addition to wound healing therapies.
What is it Used For?
This therapy is often used to help wounds heal. This is because the cells contain proteins that can provide the clotting that is required in order to successfully heal the area. Any places where wounds are located, including those that have inflammation or tissue damage, have been found to successfully heal with the use of this therapy.
Other people that have a hard time clotting their own blood may find that this procedure helps them do so, which again, helps to heal their wounds faster than if they did not have any sort of help. It may be a regular therapy for them, especially if they become hurt in some manner.
