How to Manage Pain from an Impacted Canine

Posted on 8/20/2019 by Clackamas Oral Surgery
How to Manage Pain from an Impacted CanineOne of the symptoms of an impacted canine is pain. Depending on the severity of the problem, the amount of pain you feel will vary. For some people the pain is so much that they need to get treatment right away.

For others, it is possible to manage the pain until they can get into our office for some help. These are some of the tricks that people can turn to help them manage the pain from an impacted canine.

Natural Remedies

Because the canines play an important role in the bite, it is a good idea to try to get them to emerge fully before trying to do something more drastic. Doing this requires time. The problem that people run into if they try to wait for the impacted canine tooth to fully emerge is the symptoms they suffer from.

The number one symptom is pain. After that, people complain about the swelling. There are some natural remedies that you can turn to that help with these symptoms. Hot and cold compresses can help with the swelling and that can help with the pain.

There are also several natural remedies that can help with the pain. The most common one is the use of warm salt water rinses. You can do this several times a day to help with the pain that comes from the impacted molars.

Other Remedies
If the natural remedies are not strong enough to manage the symptoms of the impacted canine, over-the-counter medications may help. There are medications that can help with both the pain and the swelling. Turning to these could give you what you need until the tooth is able to emerge.

Managing the pain does not mean the problems of an impacted canine will go away. It only gives you the time you need to get to our office to seek the help that will resolve the problem completely. Even if these techniques eliminate the pain completely, you still need to visit our office to take care of the impacted canine.
