Your Morning Routine Should Not Include Chronic Jaw PainA good morning routine can make every day a little better. Most people develop the routine that fits their needs, but there is always something ready to disrupt that routine. Some people include chronic jaw pain and taking steps to manage that pain as part of their daily routine. There are some better ways to deal with this to get eliminate that part of the daily routine.

Some of the Causes
There are several reasons that you have chronic jaw pain. While a toothache can lead to jaw pain, that is usually temporary and not chronic. Chronic pain is a sign that there is something more complicated going on.

For some people the cause of chronic jaw pain is the position they sleep in. A pillow or something else that causes the jaw to not align properly while you sleep could cause the pain. It could also come from temporomandibular joint disorder. TMJ is a condition that affects the joint that connects the jaw to the skull.

That joint and the muscles can feel stressed from teeth grinding, sleep position and other factors. The result of TNMJ is waking up in the morning with pain in the jaw.

Treating Chronic Jaw Pain

The good news is that it is possible to treat chronic jaw pain. If the cause is sleep position or the pillow a person sleeps with, changing that is a simple thing to do. A sleep test may help diagnose this issue and find the right position for you to sleep in.

TMJ is also treatable. Oral appliances and mouthguards can help relieve the stress of the TMJ to help eliminate the pain from the condition. There are also other types of treatment that will help stop the pain from TMJ.

If you suffer chronic jaw pain, you should not try to live with it. Find out what the cause is and seek out treatment to end the pain. Contact our office today to schedule your next appointment to discuss any oral health questions you have.
