Teeth Extraction Clackamas Implant & Oral Surgery Center OR 97015-7787After you have had an extraction done, it is important to follow the aftercare instructions that were given to you by our oral surgeon. They are going to make sure that explain how to best care for your mouth to promote proper healing.

Following these instructions will help limit the amount of discomfort you are in, reduce swelling, and get you back to your normal life as soon as possible.

Caring for an Extraction

After you have a tooth removed, it is important to follow the instructions that are given to you to care for the tooth. There are a few recommended care items that should be adhered to in order to ensure that the area is clean and that the bleeding stops.

Drinking from straws or sucking in any way, or even spitting is something that is prohibited. You do not want to make the blood clot that is blocking the bleeding to come loose. If this happens, it can cause a problem known as dry socket. Smoking should also be something that is refrained from, as this can dislodge the clot lead to an infection.

Take all medications as directed by the oral surgeon. This will reduce the swelling and pain that you are in. If you are struggling to manage the swelling and or your pain, you can use a wrapped ice pack to reduce swelling and dull pain.

You want to avoid using any type of mouthwash unless otherwise directed by us. Instead, use a simple saltwater rinse to gently rinse and clean your mouth and gums.

If you need to have a tooth extracted and are not sure what to do after your procedure, give our office a call today. We can schedule you for your extraction and answer any questions you may have.
