![]() There are certain foods that will really aggravate your mouth, and others that won't. Avoid the following types of foods to keep your mouth feeling good and hopefully facilitate a full recovery for your jaw. Tough Tough food is one of the most important to avoid when you are suffering from jaw pain. Tough food requires lots of pressure by your mouth, but it also requires that you chew repeatedly. This is arguably one of the worst combinations overall. Think foods like beef jerky, pot roast, steak, venison or any other cut of meat that hasn't been carefully tenderized or slow cooked. Take care to get meats really soft before consuming them, or just avoid the tougher cuts of meat until your jaw feels better. Hard Hard foods are important to avoid when your jaw is in pain because they put excess pressure on your teeth as well as your jaw muscles. This includes foods like candy, apples, bruschetta, corn on the cob and many others that are well-known for being rough to bite down on. Chewy Even foods that aren't tough or hard can be demanding on the jaw and lead to pain over time. Things like fat from meat or bubble gum aren't great for jaw health. If you need to chew and chew and chew the food, it's going to aggravate your jaw over time and lead to issues that you have to deal with. It's best to avoid anything that's too chewy when your jaw is already on the rocks. Ultimately, we recommend that anyone suffering from jaw pain comes in and talks with one of our knowledgeable experts.
