Allow the Extraction Site to Clot
It is usual to have some bleeding right after the extraction. You may need to change the gauze a few times, but a clot will eventually form, stopping the bleeding. Not letting a clot form can lead to infection. Keep the extraction area clean, and avoid using straws or letting food particles get inside.
Get Enough Rest
After the surgery, make sure you rest well to help the extraction site heal faster. Keep the head elevated to reduce blood flow and allow a clot to form. Drink plenty of water to keep your mouth clean, prevent infection, and stay hydrated. Use ice packs to ease pain and swelling.

Do Not Spit
After tooth extraction, your mouth may fill with blood and saliva. Spitting might seem like a good idea, but it can disrupt blood clots. Instead, lean over the sink and let saliva and blood flow out naturally. Avoid poking the extraction site with your tongue, as it can lead to dry sockets. Do not use straws, and do not rinse your mouth.
Do Not Smoke
Smoking can harm blood clotting and cause a dry socket. Avoid smoking for at least 48 hours after tooth extraction. Also, do not eat hard foods; stick to soft foods to keep the extraction site clean.
Do Not Rinse Forcefully
Refrain from vigorous rinsing for the first few days to prevent the dislodging of the healing blood clot. You can also avoid engaging in strenuous activities for a number of days to avoid excessive blood flow to the extraction site.
