Relaxed, Comfortable Care—Tailored for You
If you feel nervous about oral surgery, you’re not alone. Dental anxiety is common, and at Clackamas Implant & Oral Surgery Center, we’re committed to making your experience as calm and stress-free as possible.
Led by Brett M. Sullivan, DMD, MD, a dual-degreed oral and maxillofacial surgeon licensed in IV and general anesthesia, we provide safe, customized sedation options—from mild relaxation to full unconsciousness—based on your needs, health history, and procedure.
Whether you’re undergoing wisdom tooth removal, dental implants, bone grafting, or another procedure, we offer sedation solutions designed to support your comfort, safety, and peace of mind.
Sedation Options We Offer
Local Anesthesia
- What it is: Numbs the surgical area while you remain fully awake
- Used for: All procedures—often combined with other sedation types
- Best for: Simple extractions, minor surgical needs, or low-anxiety patients
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
- Inhaled through a small mask worn over the nose
- Induces mild relaxation while keeping you fully alert
- Effects wear off quickly—most patients can resume daily activities soon after
- Ideal for short procedures or patients with mild anxiety
Oral Sedation
- A prescription sedative (pill or dissolvable tablet) taken before surgery
- Helps you feel deeply relaxed or drowsy—many patients remember little or nothing
- You remain conscious but less aware
- Requires a driver to take you home
- Great for patients with moderate anxiety or longer procedures
IV Sedation
- Administered directly into a vein for fast-acting, deeper relaxation
- You stay conscious but typically won’t remember the procedure
- Monitored continuously by Dr. Sullivan and our clinical team
- Recommended for longer or more complex procedures, or patients with higher anxiety
General Anesthesia
- You’re fully asleep during the procedure
- Reserved for extensive surgeries, special needs patients, or severe medical conditions
- Delivered by a board-certified anesthesiologist in partnership with our team
- You’ll wake up once the surgery is complete, with no memory of the procedure
