Dental Implants Clackamas Implant & Oral Surgery Center OR 97015Dental bone grafting is not as scary as you might think it is. A lot of people get overly concerned or nervous when the idea of a bone graft comes up, but there is nothing to worry about.

When you are considering dental implants and we suggest a one graft, it is simply because we want to ensure that you have the highest chance of a successful implant as possible.

Many times, people who require dental implants lack sufficient bone density of strength for the procedure. A bone graft helps to strengthen and increase the density of the bone to make dental implants a viable option.

Bone Grafting Procedures

Bone grafting procedures are done to replace bone that might be missing from the areas where the implants are going to be implanted. They need to have a sufficient amount of bone there to put the implant into.

When the tooth has been gone for some time, the bone that once held begins to break down. This happens because there are no teeth and roots to help stimulate the bone, causing the body to forgo sending the required nutrients to the area to sustain the bone. This is why the graft is needed to put the bone back into the area.

Sometimes the bone that is needed comes straight from the patient's body. This can normally be taken from the hip or other areas in the body. Sometimes grafts are used from special synthetic or animal materials that are then used to place the implant into the area.

The procedure that is used for you depends on your unique situation and where they want to get the bone from. Sometimes you may have enough bone in the area that can be used for the implant and a graft might not be needed at all.

Speak with our oral surgeons regarding dental implants and whether or not you will need a bone graft. We will be happy to explain the entire process to you and answer any questions you may have,
